IMPORTANT DATES
- DECEMBER 5, 2021: Candidate Q&A Session (RSVP on Facebook event page coming soon)
- DECEMBER 19, 2021: Candidate application is due (submit application)
- JANUARY 2, 2022: Candidate presentations (RSVP for live event available in email to members only)
- JANUARY 17, 2022: Ballot must be mailed to the Michigan Deaf Association and postmarked by January 17, 2022.
- JANUARY 30, 2022: Announcement of new board members
ELECTION RULES
- Anyone can be a member of the Michigan Deaf Association and vote.
- Candidates must be A) Michigan resident, B) in good standing with their annual dues, and C) a member of the Michigan Deaf Association for at least one year.
- The MDA's bylaws empowers Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing to run for elected positions.
- The term for all positions is 2 years.
- Votes are done by written ballot mailed to the members' home address (Update your contact information).
RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS
(Responsibilities of each position includes, but not limited to)
- President: presides at all meetings of the Association, enforce the by-laws, and appoint standing and special committees
- Vice President: performs all duties of the President in their absence, advise and assist committees
- Secretary: records minutes, manage official correspondences, and organize organizational documents for archiving purposes
- Treasurer: manages financial transactions, organizational budget, and filing financial reports
- Public Relations Coordinator: plans activities, events, and social media marketing
- Regional representatives: hosts events within their regions and keeps the Vice President regularly informed about local issues. (There can be up to 2 representatives per region, 8 total).
- Parliamentarian: ensures that the Board of Directors follow the by-laws, policy and procedures using Robert’s Rules of Order and organizational guidelines
